Japan - From Mountain To Sea

July 24 - August 1, 2022

Japan – GLT

From: $ 2,939.00

Come and spend a week in the land of the Rising Sun. There’ll be neon lights and bullet-trains, maid-cafes and cosplay characters, and all those experiences will taste all the sweeter having watched the sunrise across East Asia as you sat perched on top of Japan’s highest peak, Mount Fuji.  We meet in Tokyo, but after a group dinner getting to know all your co-adventurers, it’s straight off to Fujiyoshida, at the base of the mountain. After some hot springs and sight-seeing, it’s a carb-loading dinner and an early night. The next 2 days we’re hiking!

The climb takes 2 days at a gentle pace. Our mountain guide will help everyone pace themselves, manage the altitude, and ensure we’re on the right track. We spend the night on the iconic Fuji mountain huts before a 3am wake-up and a final hike for sunrise. After the descent, it’s celebration time!

The following day we’re back in Tokyo, carrying a huge grin and a few aches and pains. We’ll spend the next 2 days jumping from ancient Japanese temples, to local food jaunts. And then it’s Sayōnara on Day 7. What an adventure!

  • Reward yourself and relax those muscles after the hike in an authentic onsen.

  • Savour the matcha green tea flavoured everything, the sushi rolls, the ramen noodles and the katsu curry. Japanese food not only tastes great but it usually worth a photo or two!
  • Experience the dizzying but equally beautiful culture shock of one of the most unique countries in the world.
  • Drink Sake in the atmospheric bars around Roppongi and Shibuya (home to the famous Shibuya Crossing!)

1

Day 1

Arrive in Tokyo anytime today, check-in to the hotel, and we'll all go for a group dinner, chat about the trip, the climb, and maybe have time for a warm Sake in true Japanese fashion!
2

Day 2

If you missed it out the window of your flight, then this is the morning you'll finally set eyes on the beautiful Mount Fuji. After navigating the public transport system together in Tokyo, an event in itself, we'll jump on our journey south to the town of Fujiyoshida, right at the base of Fuji-san and on the cusp of Lake Kawaguchi. We'll check into our hotel, then off to spend the day truly appreciating the climb ahead. First up, is Mt. Fuji Panoramic Ropeway. Once we reach the top of Mount Tenjō, Mount Fuji will be staring right back at us. Spend a second to think by the following night, we'll be perched almost at the top. Down we go, a boat road around Lake Kawaguchi and then a tour around the lake. Back to the hotel for dinner, maybe a hot Sake drink, and an early night. Tomorrow, we climb!
3

Day 3

We'll have an early breakfast then take the train from Kawaguchiko station to Fuji 5th station, the starting point for 90% of climbers wishing to summit Mount Fuji. The group will start the hike around 10am, hoping to arrive at the mountain hut around 6pm (around 3,300m/11,000 feet). Where we'll bunk down for the night Japanese style.
4

Day 4

It's up super early to reach the summit for sunrise. It's just a few hundred more meters and you'll be some of the first people to see the run rise up over Japan. Almost time to soothe those weary limbs, we'll have a bite to eat then head to the hotel to check-in, have a nap and shower.
Late afternoon we have a date with a natural hot spring! Congrats! Then a celebratory group dinner, and back to the hotel.
5

Day 5

We'll take an easy morning in  Kawaguchi before we transport back to Tokyo, drop our bags at our hotel and we're off to explore Japan's futuristic Capital city, alongside our local guide. We'll head over to the busiest crossing in the world, Shibuya crossing, and grab a coffee at the busiest Starbucks in the world.
After our recharge, we'll wander down to one of Tokyo's most famous landmarks, the Meiji Shrine. Stunning ancient Japanese architecture, here we'll pay our respects to the shrine, dedicated to the deified spirits of Emperor Meiji and his wife, Empress Shōken.
After a few pics, we'll wonder to the then walk to Harajuku, or more specifically Takeshita-dori, which is a bustling narrow street several blocks to the north. It's a rite of passage for traveling to Tokyo, people dressed up in their 'cosplay', you can go for a spot of shopping in their weird and wonderful stores, or sit back and watch the quirkiness of Japan walk right past you. Pit stop back at the hotel, and then we'll be heading out to Tokyo's bustling Roppongi for dinner and drinks. Either have a bite to eat and hit the sack, or if you're feeling energetic, explore Tokyo's lively bar scene.
6

Day 6

After breakfast, we'll head over to Tokyo's Akihabara district, or 'Electric Town'. This is the Tokyo you hear about when you're young. Nintendo and Sega everywhere, you can have a bash at some retro arcade games, or go hunting for any gadget you can think of (and plenty you can't!) , there's nothing you can't get here! The Anime and manga subculture is spilling out from every nook and cranny. After modern Tokyo, we're off to Tokyo's most historic temple, Senso Ji Temple. With any luck, we'll see Geisha's wandering around, skyscrapers in one shot, and Tokyo's largest Buddhist temple in the other - this is truly where new and old Japan meet. After exploring, with the camera batteries running low, just a step away is a Nakamise shopping arcade where every Japanese back known to man is waiting for you to try. Back to the hotel for shower and a change (or a nap for the those feeling weary), before we have an interesting group dinner at a Robot Restaurant. Labour is cheap here when you order from iPads, and futuristic robots deliver the food to the table. It's likely an early night tonight as we have a full fairytale day to wake up to.
7

Day 7

Let's end things on a magical note and spend the day at Disney World Tokyo. We'll head out early to get a full day enjoying all the rides, attractions, and shows the enchanted world has to offer. It's a tiring one, so we're moving hotels to a nearby spot so you can crash within 15 minutes of leaving the park. This place WEARS YOU OUT! And you've got round 2 tomorrow at Disney Sea;
8

Day 8

If you didn't get enough hugs from a Japanese man dressed as a giant mouse, fear not! You have another chance. Just a short hop from our hotel, and we're back in the magical world of Disney, but this time at Tokyo Disney Sea. More rides, attractions, cakes and selfies await in one of the world's best themeparks. Try to save at least some energy for your goodbye dinner tonight!
9

Day 9

That's all folks (hang on, that's Warner Brothers, right?!). Anyway, we hope you've booked some extra luggage for those oversized Minnie Mouse ears and all the stuffed toys you won. Today, we're outta here. Thanks for the memories ladies.
